Rescued from the pit

Many are still celebrating the rescue mission accomplished yesterday in Chile when 33 miners were pulled out of the pit after 2 months. It is estimated that a billion people worldwide watched it live. But this is not the first time that Good News has come from a pit. A deeper pit than this made bigger headlines 2000 years ago, when only One Man rescued greater multitudes trapped underneath. Because we know that in Ephesians 4:7-9 when he ascended on high, he led captives in his train. What does `he ascended` mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions?

This lot did not even rise up to the surface of the earth, but continued on to greater heights, because He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens. This they could do, only because their Rescuer was from above. Those from earth, can only rescue others upto the earth’s surface. But this man Jesus, having come from the Father, has power to rescue one all the way up, even into the very presence of the Creator Himself. To make this rescue complete, He took away the keys of the pit with Him, so that no one would have to go down there again, but by choice. He had dug a way out of the pit where there was no way before. Now anyone down there can freely climb up His finished tunnel and come out straight into throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

His rescue mission has never stopped since He brought the first captives out. Every day and night He is busy bringing up someone new out of the pit into His Light. Whenever this happens it is Breaking News in heaven because there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. That is why there is no other job valued more highly than helping Jesus pull the trapped out of the pit. Those who take part in it by leading many to righteousness will shine like the stars for ever and ever. It is not too late to join Him, because the trapped are many but the rescuers are few. So if you just rescue one person from the pit today, you will make headline news in Heaven.
